In the event series “Wissenschaft auf AEG“, scientists from the FAU present the latest developments in their research areas to the general public.

On 15 January 2018, MAP chair Nicolas Vogel, introduced how we can learn from nature to create materials with remarkable functionality. We all know the fascinating properties of natural materials – from the beautiful colors of butterflies or birds, to the excellent stability of shells or the water-repellent properties of the Lotus plant and other species. The underlying trick lies in the defined structure of these materials, which can be mimicked in the laboratory by the self-assembly of simple building blocks.

This public lecture is available in German language, and the online newspaper “” also provides more information on this event in German.
