Under the leadership of Dr.-Ing. Jochen Friedrich, this course aimed at the familiarization of MAP students with the semiconductor industry and at viewing technology from markets’ perspective.
Because of the importance of semiconductor crystals Fraunhofer IISB invited MAP students to the 2nd MAP Course on Roadmaps in Semiconductor Crystal Growth (MAPS). In a series of lectures experts from Fraunhofer IISB introduced semiconductor crystals, their further processing to semiconductor devices, and the applications of such semiconductor devices in the areas photovoltaic and powerelectronics. Subsequently, teams of 3 to 5 students analyzed the market developments for different materials, their applications and the challenges which arise for, e.g., the production of devices. As a last step a one day presentation at Fraunhofer IISB took place, where the student teams presented their results with respect to the future applications and development of materials in the different markets. The course was closed by a lab tour through Fraunhofer IISB.
