The Science of Superheroes

Could Wonder Woman’s bracers really block pistol bullets? Would it be possible to recreate Iron Man’s armor or Captain America’s shield with their unique features in reality? Could a technologically advanced society actually be based on a single material, as it is the case with Black Panther’s people with the (fictional) Vibranium?

In his popular scientific lecture, guest speaker Prof. Suveen Mathaudhu from University of California – Riverside (USA) discusses these and other exciting questions. In the end, he answers whether the fiction from the popular cosmos of superheroes is perhaps closer to reality than expected.

Suveen Mathaudhu is professor for mechanical engineering as well as for materials science and engineering. The lecture was recorded during the “Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften” on 19 October, 2019 – a scientific long-night event for the scientific and non-scientific population of the metropolitan region of Nuremberg, Erlangen, Fürth and far beyond.”
